Family with a Purpose Pt I
There is life that is discovered only in complete surrender to Him and surrender to His opinion of what life looks like.- Craig Muster
“Now the Lord said to Abram. Get out of your country and go out from your father’s house to a land that I will show you. I will make you a great nation and I will bless you. I will make your name great, and you shall be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and I will curse those who curse you. And then you all the families and the earth, say families of the earth, shall be blessed.” Genesis 12:1-3
This is the third time in the Bible we find that God has blessed someone and then revealed to them their purpose. You see it in Genesis chapter one with Adam and Eve, Genesis nine with Noah, and now you see it again with Abram.
The order in which God moves is profound. He never starts with an assignment. He always begins with the “blessing”. There is a divine order to the way of God. His ways are perfect. His purposes are perfect. There is life that is discovered only in complete surrender to Him and surrender to His opinion of what life looks like. As we often say within our community, “If God’s opinion differs from ours, then whose opinion needs to change?”

What is God’s order? The blessing of God is the key that unlocks the pathway of true fulfillment in life. Within the blessing is all of the potential to have amazing heart to heart relationships. In Genesis 1:28 we find, “God blessed them and said to them, ‘Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it.’” The first commandment tied to the blessing was for Adam and Eve to be fruitful. This is relational in nature, saying, “Adam and Eve! Enjoy each other! Love each other! Out of that love you will produce fruit.” Relationship will always precede authentic fruit.
We can “fake it” with our gifts for a season. But real, authentic fruit is only produced out of real, authentic relationship. It is in the very nature of God. If we try to find and fulfill our assignment outside the context of covenant relationships we will only produce half developed, self-serving mission statements hoping to fill a deep void within us that was only meant to be filled by profound, authentic relationships.
Holy Spirit, we thank you for the unction. We thank you for the anointing. We thank you for what your Spirit is already doing in our hearts. We thank you for life, and life abundantly. You haven’t called us to live a life reduced to the strength of our own hands. You call us to live an extravagant and abundant life. Even the deep stirrings in our hearts, those we’re afraid to even whisper at times for fear they won’t come about; those things you desire to fulfill. We trust you with all of our hearts today. We ask for revelation beyond our understanding. We also ask for our understanding to be equipped with this revelation.
In Jesus’ s name, amen.
